Analog Flanger Pedal with Optical Treadle

The Behringer B-FLANGER is an all-analog bucket-brigade flanger pedal that revives the rare Musitronics Mu-Tron Pedal Flanger from the 1970s. Built around a BBD delay line and a full-size optical treadle, it recreates that short-lived design. True bypass keeps the dry signal intact when the effect is off.

What Makes This Design Different

Most flangers rely on a fixed LFO, but this circuit adds an optical treadle that controls the delay time itself. The player can park the flange peak wherever the foot rests — something a regular oscillator cannot reproduce. Start and Stop knobs narrow the modulation window for tighter tones in front of a dirty amp.

Signal Path & Audio Performance

The signal stays analog throughout, with a BBD delay line spanning 0.6 ms to 24 ms and a sweep rate of 0.05 Hz to 20 Hz.

• Input: 6.3 mm TS unbalanced
• Output: 6.3 mm TS unbalanced
• Input Impedance: 390 kOhm
• Signal-to-Noise Ratio: 70 dB

Controls & Operating Modes

Start and Stop set the bottom and top of the oscillator sweep, Rate sets modulation speed, and Feedback governs resonance. The Pedal footswitch switches between oscillator mode and treadle mode.

• Controls: Feedback, Pedal, Rate, Start, Stop
• Number of Buttons: 2
• Bypass: True bypass
• Operating Modes: Internal LFO or optical treadle
