Kawai CA401B Premium Satin Black Digital Piano

Kawai CA401B — Concert-Grade Touch and Tone in a Compact Cabinet

The Kawai CA401B marks the entry point to Kawai's Concert Artist series, focusing on the two elements that matter most to pianists: an authentic keyboard feel and a faithful grand piano sound. At its core sits the Grand Feel Compact wooden-key action — a mechanism that retains the long wooden keysticks and seesaw pivot of an acoustic grand, scaled into a smaller cabinet. The instrument pairs that action with Progressive Harmonic Imaging and the new SK-EX Competition Grand piano sample, recorded from every one of the 88 keys.

What Sets This Model Apart

Two design choices elevate this model above typical mid-range digital pianos. All 88 keys use long wooden keysticks, with Ivory Touch white key surfaces, bass-region counterweights, and a let-off simulation that recreates the subtle notch feel of a grand piano keybed. The audio chain has been re-engineered — a redesigned motherboard, a dedicated power adapter, and a four-speaker system with 13 cm woofers and 5 cm tweeters deliver a rich, low-distortion sound.

Keyboard Action — Expressive Control for Every Repertoire

The keyboard is the single most important component of any digital piano, and this instrument treats it accordingly. Extended key pivot lengths in the Grand Feel Compact action provide a more consistent touch weight when playing towards the rear of the keys, while triple sensor key detection captures fast trills and repeated notes with accuracy. Grade-weighted hammers give the bass register the heavier feel of a real acoustic.

• Keyboard Action: Grand Feel Compact with 88 wooden keys — long keysticks and seesaw mechanism
• Touch Technology: Grade-weighted hammers, triple sensor detection, let-off simulation, bass-region counterweights
• Pedal System: Grand Feel with Sustain (half-pedal), Soft, Sostenuto — three-pedal configuration

Piano Sounds — Captured From World-Class Instruments

At the heart of the sound engine sits Progressive Harmonic Imaging, Kawai's proprietary technology that reproduces the harmonic complexity of acoustic piano tone. The headline voice is the new SK-EX Competition Grand — a sample recorded from the latest generation SK-EX-L instruments that have achieved success at the Chopin, Hamamatsu, and Sendai international piano competitions. Layered alongside it are the Kawai EX Concert Grand and the K-60 Upright.

• Sound Technology: Progressive Harmonic Imaging with 88-key stereo sampling
• Piano Voices: SK-EX Competition Grand, EX Concert Grand, K-60 Upright — three source instruments
• Polyphony: 192 notes maximum — sustains dense passages without drop-out

Speakers, Headphones, and Wireless Integration

Built around a four-speaker configuration tuned by Kawai's audio engineering team, this model delivers a clear, full-range sound at any volume. The Low Volume Balance feature preserves tonal balance when playing quietly at night, while Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio enable cable-free connection to smartphones, tablets, and learning apps. A cheek-block control panel with OLED display keeps navigation intuitive.

• Speaker System: 4 speakers — 13 cm woofers × 2, 5 cm tweeters × 2
• Wireless: Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio built in
• Practice Tools: Metronome, lesson function, dual/four hands modes, 19 voices, 6 reverbs

The Right Player for This Instrument

This model is the right choice for intermediate to advanced pianists who want a digital instrument that feels and sounds like a real acoustic grand. Serious students, returning adults, and home recording players will all benefit from the weighted wooden-key action, the SK-EX Competition Grand voice, Bluetooth streaming, and quiet headphone practice.

Kawai — Acoustic Piano Craftsmanship

In the CA401, the Grand Feel Compact action translates flagship touch characteristics into a more compact format. The SK-EX Competition Grand sample originates from the Shigeru Kawai line of luxury grand pianos — hand-crafted instruments used on stages worldwide.
